Johnstown 3rds 0 – 6 OMP 2nds

A brilliant start to the league campaign with a strong away performance in the MDL on a cold, blustery evening.

Both sides began well, but OMP quickly took control of the first half, creating several chances that were denied by an outstanding Johnstown keeper. The breakthrough finally came in the 25th minute when Cian Cantwell beat his defender and delivered a perfect cross for Ola Bakare to finish at the back post. Despite continued pressure, we went into the break just 1-0 up.

We came out firing again in the second half. Matthew Kennedy doubled the lead with a superb strike from the edge of the box after another great delivery from Cantwell. Within 10 minutes, Kennedy grabbed his second, finishing from Patrick McDonnell’s cross to make it 3-0.

OMP kept pushing, and the goals kept coming. Patrick McDonnell opened his account soon after, assisted by Kennedy, before adding a second with Kennedy again providing the assist. The scoring was wrapped up when Michael Denning delivered a pinpoint corner for McDonnell to complete his hat-trick.

A fantastic all-round team performance, including a strong impact from the bench.

The home side made a strong start and took the lead early in the first half with a superb long-range effort. OMP responded positively, settling into the game with Oisin and David taking control in midfield and driving their team forward.

The equaliser came following an incisive pass from Donnchadh, who picked out Milo with a perfectly weighted through ball. Milo kept his composure to round the goalkeeper and finish neatly. Just minutes later, OMP turned the game on its head when Tom released Milo again, and he calmly slotted into the corner to give the visitors a 2-1 lead at half-time.

OMP extended their advantage midway through the second half as Lennon found the net to make it 3-1. Boyne Rovers rallied and pulled a goal back with a well-worked counterattack, but OMP remained composed under pressure. The defensive line of Se, Jamie, TJ and Nick stood firm during this period, dealing well with everything thrown at them.

The visitors added a fourth soon after when Jack struck a powerful effort from the edge of the box that crashed off the crossbar, with Lennon quickest to react and finish the rebound.

Oisin Derby was named Player of the Match following an outstanding all-round performance, capping a strong team display and a perfect start to the season for OMP United.

OMP continued to control the game and created a number of chances. With 10 minutes remaining in the first half, they extended their lead from a corner. The ball found its way to the back post, where Joe showed great composure to bring it down and slot home, giving OMP a deserved 2–0 lead at the break.

In the second half, Parkvilla enjoyed more possession, but OMP’s defence stood strong and dealt confidently with every attack. OMP remained dangerous on the counter and created several opportunities to put the game beyond reach.

Division 3A – Opening Game

Omp FC kicked off their Division 3A campaign in emphatic fashion with a dominant 6–1 victory over Torro Reserves at St. Mary’s Park on a windy, blustery afternoon.

The difficult conditions made for a frantic and scrappy start, with both sides struggling to find any real rhythm in possession. However, Omp gradually settled and took control when Ryan Tighe burst into the box and was brought down, earning a penalty. Kevin Jasinski stepped up and coolly slotted the ball low to the keeper’s left to open the scoring.

Tighe remained a constant threat and soon doubled Omp’s lead, racing through on goal and finishing calmly under the advancing goalkeeper. With the wind behind them, Omp continued to press, and a long ball from goalkeeper Thomas Dowdall found Tighe once again, who made no mistake in completing his brace and putting Omp 3–0 ahead.

Omp eased off slightly approaching half-time, allowing Torro back into the game. After a sustained period of pressure, the visitors were awarded a penalty, which they converted to make it 3–1 at the break.

The second half saw Omp reassert their dominance. Jasinski was particularly influential down the left flank, while right-back Harry Wallace made a surging run forward before squaring for Tighe, who completed his hat-trick—his second of the season—with a composed finish.

Jasinski then added a goal of his own in spectacular fashion, cutting inside and unleashing a powerful strike from 25 yards into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.

Torro continued to battle, but Omp remained firmly in control. Alex O’Hare capped off an excellent midfield performance by contributing a goal and an assist, rounding off a comprehensive team display.

Drogheda Town 3–3 OMP

OMP made the trip to face early league leaders Drogheda Town for their third outing of the season, in what proved to be a highly competitive contest played in blustery conditions.

Playing with the advantage of the breeze in the first half, OMP started strongly and dominated early proceedings, creating several good chances. Despite some near misses, the breakthrough eventually came courtesy of a superb strike from distance by Christopher Hayes, who unleashed an unstoppable effort from 25 yards.

OMP continued to press for a second goal, with Conor Mulchrone and Ryan McGoona working tirelessly up front, while Thomas and Cody controlled the midfield. The defence also remained solid as the visitors looked in control. However, Drogheda Town responded against the run of play, scoring two quick goals to take a 2–1 lead into halftime.

The home side extended their advantage shortly after the restart following a moment of indecision in the OMP defence, making it 3–1. OMP responded well, with a number of substitutions injecting fresh energy into the team.

Their persistence paid off when Conor Mulchrone showed great determination in the box, capitalising on a loose ball to pull it back to 3–2. Buoyed by this, OMP pushed forward and were rewarded with a penalty after a challenge in the Drogheda area. Christopher Hayes stepped up and calmly converted to level the game at 3–3.

There was still time for Drogheda Town to threaten, but a smart save from Ryan in goal ensured OMP held on for a deserved draw.
Overall, a 3–3 result was a fair reflection of a hard-fought match, with OMP showing great character, especially in the second half.
A special mention goes to Rhys O’Connor, who made his OMP debut.

Man of the Match: Christopher Hayes & Conor Mulchrone (joint winners)

OMP United U13s produced a determined performance OMP United U13s produced a determined performance to come from behind and secure a 2–1 win over Parkvilla at Watters Lane in very difficult weather conditions.

Playing into strong wind and rain in the first half made things tough early on, and Parkvilla took the lead. As the half went on, OMP began to grow into the game, using the width better and creating a good attack down the wing that nearly resulted in a penalty before halftime.

With the wind in their favour in the second half, OMP put Parkvilla under constant pressure. The equaliser came when Ben scored from a free kick after the Parkvilla goalkeeper handled outside the box. Soon after, Ethan scored the winner following a very well-worked team move. OMP stayed solid defensively for the remainder of the game to see out a well-earned victory.

Shay was Player of the Match for an outstanding performance in goal, making several excellent saves, especially in the first half, to keep OMP in the game. A great team performance with every player playing their part.

OMP’s Senior Men made the trip to Dublin to face Tolka Rovers in the FAI Junior Cup at Frank Cooke Park on Saturday.
The game began with both sides feeling each other out in the early stages, but it was Tolka who looked the more threatening, particularly down their left flank. They managed to get in behind the OMP defence on several occasions, though they were unable to capitalise on the crosses delivered into the box.

OMP weathered that early pressure well and began to settle into the game. A disciplined defensive structure and strong work rate across the pitch helped keep Tolka at bay. In goal, Thomas Dowdall was outstanding throughout, pulling off a series of impressive saves to frustrate the home side.
The sides went in level at 0–0 at half-time, with OMP putting in a solid and well-organised performance.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with OMP continuing to defend resolutely. However, around the hour mark, Tolka began to take control, and their number 6 produced a moment of quality, striking from 35 yards to finally break the deadlock and beat Dowdall.

To their credit, OMP responded positively and pushed for an equaliser, creating a number of promising chances. Despite their efforts, they were unable to find the back of the net, and Tolka held on to secure a 1–0 victory.
